What Is Remix OS Player

Remix OS Player is an Android emulator for Windows built by Jide Technology, running a customized Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow environment on top of the Android-x86 project. Unlike most emulators that mimic a phone screen inside a window, Remix OS Player replicates a full desktop — complete with a start menu, taskbar, system tray, and resizable, multi-window app support, so you can genuinely multitask between several Android apps at once.

Development on Remix OS Player was discontinued years ago, and the developer no longer maintains it. What keeps it relevant in 2026 is compatibility: a meaningful chunk of older Android apps and games built for Marshmallow simply won't launch on modern emulators like BlueStacks 5 or LDPlayer 9, which run Android 9 and up. For that narrow use case, Remix OS Player still does the job newer tools can't.

It's not the right pick for anyone chasing the newest games or the highest frame rates — for that, a modern emulator will serve you far better. But for legacy app testing, older productivity tools, or just running the Android apps you remember from a decade ago, it remains one of the few working options left.

NOTE: Remix OS Player has not been updated since its 2016 release and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow only. Newer apps built for Android 9+ may not install or run correctly. For modern games, a current emulator is a better fit.
